It could be during the holidays when you are dealing with a lot more dishes, pans, pots and kitchenware. Or perhaps you were just lazy and didn’t feel like washing. Regardless, you need to find a way to deal with all that before it is too late. Here is a reliable way to do that:
- Soak as you meant it – soaking dishes is the best cleaning practice you should adopt. It represents the essence of bulk dishwashing. When finished with food preparation, fill the sink with hot water and add some dishwashing liquid till lather forms. Then, before you sit down for dinner, put the smaller items in there to soak. You will find it makes a world of difference when it comes to actual washing after that. It is especially true for greasy pans and pots.
- Stack outside when possible – as you are clearing away the table, resist the urge to put everything in the sink. Stackable dishes take little space and can be washed later. It is much easier to take care of the big stuff first because you will need the space in the sink. Additionally, you gain some momentum when washing the same items, because you establish a certain rhythm.
- Have wet and dry zones – before a big dinner at home, clear as much space around the sinks as possible. The goal is to increase the available surface area so that you can designate a place for all the dirty dishes and a place for drying them.
- Protect your hands – you may not usually wear gloves as you clean, but it may be a good idea with a big pile of dishes to deal with. You will be spending extra time washing, so it is best to protect your hands from the dishwashing detergent, especially if you have sensitive skin. While you are at it, put an apron and get to work.
- Get somebody to help you – it is not fair to tackle the whole task on your own, especially when others have participated in the feast. This tip is mostly targeted at your family members. Ask your significant other or even your children to help you out. That way the dishes will be cleaned much quicker.
- Use some trays – if there is a bar, buffet or another area of your home apart from the kitchen, it is a good idea to use a tray. That way moving plates, bowls and others become much easier, not to mention safer.
