It is a well-known fact that carpets get dirty over time. To prevent this, you need regular cleaning in the form of vacuuming and also steam carpet cleaning plus dry cleaning. A common mistake with people is that they think that having professional gear at hand can solve all of their problems.
As it turns out having the right tools means pretty much nothing, if you are not careful. Following are a few mistakes that you should avoid, as they can ruin your chances of getting a clean carpet:
- Cleaning the carpet too frequently – knowing how often your carpet needs to be cleaned is as important as knowing how to clean it properly. Do you clean it when you see visible signs of dirt? Do you wait till there is a stain? Should you bust out the heavy-duty gear every month? Carpet cleaning experts have the best answer to all these questions: not necessarily. The frequency of cleaning largely depends on how much foot traffic the carpet sees, whether the affected area with a stain is large, etc. It can be quite expensive to clean the entire carpet area when all you need is a spot treatment. The major thing to remember is this: too frequent cleaning different from simple vacuuming may lead to wearing out of the material, which you don’t want.
- (Too) Thoroughly spot-cleaning – scrubbing as hard as possible to get that nasty stain out of your carpet may seem like the logical thing to do. It may seem like common sense, as that will set the cleaning agent deeper. Know that removing stains is not a question of how hard you scrub them. Rather, it is all about what solution you use. Know that using the wrong solution leads to more trouble in the future, as it allows more dirt to be trapped. Then again, applying a cleaning agent with too much force is also an issue, since it may cause damage. Spot cleaning in a non-abrasive manner makes all the difference without any trouble for your carpet.
- Not doing a check-up after completing the task – whether you are cleaning a commercial carpet on your own or using a cleaning company for the job, it is essential to check how the job has been done. You don’t want to find the carpet soaked in water when you walk over it, right? For this reason, inspect every area of and see if there is still water residue after steam cleaning. Don’t give the area a quick glance, but walk over and check the area thoroughly.
- Using wrong equipment – there is different equipment available for carpet cleaning. What sort of machine and method you use largely depends on what the carpet is made of. Therefore, you should select your machine carefully, as you don’t want to damage the fibres. Hopefully, the right cleaning agency will guide you on what is best suited for your carpet.
As you can see, there is quite a lot that can go wrong with carpet cleaning. It is up to you to avoid the mistakes outlined above so that your commercial carpet looks its best.
